An Indonesian Textile Tradition

Batik

A language of pattern, colour and cultural meaning.

What is batik?

Batik is a textile tradition that uses wax to keep selected areas of cloth from absorbing dye. First, makers apply wax and add colour. Then they remove the wax. Repeating these steps creates layered patterns.

In Indonesia, batik is part of everyday dress and important celebrations. Its patterns carry cultural meaning that varies across communities and occasions. In 2009, UNESCO added Indonesian batik to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Our own patterns.
Made for Mixara.

Mixara Tailored features original designs created specifically for our brand. Our collection brings Indonesian pattern expression into a clean, modern shirt. Each composition stands on its own.

We make our shirts in Jakarta using printed batik on Cotton Primissima 40S. Printing places the motifs onto the fabric, rather than traditional wax-resist dyeing. A slim fit and a simple silhouette let the pattern do the talking.
